  1. KB Front Door

The front door of Katharine Blunt House(KB) seems to hate its residents. I often arrive back later at night, where the scanner is turned off, so I have to go all the way around to the back most of the time. This is not fun when it’s 30 degrees outside with 20 mph wind gusts and you can feel your hands starting to freeze off.

  1. Harris Soft Serve Meltiness Level

When it’s actually cold outside, the Harris soft serve is actually really good, but most of the time it’s the consistency of soup.

  1. Cost of Oasis items/lack of meal swipe items

Sometimes I get sick of Harris and just want a quick option like sushi or a poke bowl to get for dinner, but I can’t because everything is so expensive.  They also only have meal swipes for 5 days a week, so whenever I get a middle-of-the-night craving for fries and use a meal swipe for them, I have to add real money to get a mac and cheese bowl on Sunday nights(my meetings don’t end until 9 on Sundays).

  1. Campus being one huge wind tunnel

Conn can get super windy very often, and the campus feels like one big wind tunnel. I often feel like I’m about to get blown away by the gusts on strong wind days.

  1. Harris starvation on the weekends

Although it can be good sometimes and on certain days, Harris has barely any food and loves to starve Conn students on the weekend. The only things they have are cookies, breadsticks, and weird pasta combinations, like tofu and tomato, with a questionable sauce. So that means that sometimesI don’t eat lunch at all on Saturdays and Sundays, usually only having a cookie or breadstick and some coffee.

My New England betrayal list:

  1. 5pm darkness

The end of daylight savings time in New England is no joke. As someone who has a class from 1-4 every week, it can feel like I’m walking home and suddenly it’s already nighttime and pitch black. On stormy days, it can feel like this even at 2:30. When the class is all the way on the other side of campus, it’s not fun walking back in the dark.

Hi! My name is Madeline and I'm a first-year student at Conn! I'm from DC and I went to Jackson-Reed High School. I love swimming, creative writing and traveling. I also spent three years of high school living overseas in Amman, Jordan where I got to travel to lots of exciting countries, such as an international swim meet in Greece and a community service trip to Cape Town, South Africa. I also enjoy cooking and baking. I am very excited to be a part of HerCampus!
