This week on Her Campus Conn Coll, it’s all about movies. And everyone knows that you can’t have movie night without the perfect movie snack… We just don’t always agree on what that perfect snack is. I’m sure all of us are already thinking about our own favorite movie treat right now.

But if you ever need some inspiration for what to eat during your next movie marathon, we have got you covered—from savory to sweet.

Peanut m&m’s

When it comes to movie snacks, anything chocolate hits the spot. Before the pandemic, I would often grab a bag of peanut m&ms and probably finish the entire bag before the film even started. Over the years I have dabbled in sneaking (chocolate) snacks and water in my bag into the theater to avoid the absurdly expensive prices at the movie theater. In which case, I will sometimes get fancy and munch on chocolate covered almonds, or in one desperate case, just a bag of Nestle chocolate chips. But if I am going to splurge, I will definitely go for the largest bag of peanut m&ms available and indulge in this marvelous combo as I escape into whatever film I may be watching.

Ice Cream Sundae

I know that an ice cream sundae is an unconventional movie snack, but it has to be my favorite dessert. Popcorn and candy are great and all, but they don’t satisfy my sweet tooth like a scoop (or two or three) of moose tracks, some chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Whenever I went to a movie theater, I would have to settle for some other classic (aka boring) movie snack, like sour patch kids or cookie dough bites. Since movie theaters are a thing of the past right now, I have been enjoying eating ice cream during all of my movie screenings. I recommend treating yourself to an ice cream sundae for your at home movie nights, but do not suggest attempting to sneak one into a movie theater, if they ever open up again.

Microwave Popcorn

In my opinion, there’s no movie snack that can beat popcorn. Although not quite as good as the buckets from the theater, microwave popcorn can be perfectly suitable for at-home munching while streaming your favorite movie. Is the traditional buttery flavor not for you? Don’t worry! There’s a variety of flavors you can add to your homemade popcorn. Some of my favorites include truffle, bacon, and cheddar cheese. Enjoy your snacking!

Sour Patch Watermelon

Sour Patch Watermelon are god-tier, simple as that. The perfect blend of sweetness and tang, Sour Patch Watermelon are ideal for whenever you’re craving candy. But for some reason, I associate them with the movie theater specifically—there’s really nothing like polishing off a whole bag within the first fifteen minutes of a movie.
