Do you ever just find yourself living in a pandemic, and decide you spend 95% of your time inside anyway so why not get bangs? No, just me?

Whether you had bangs before “quarantine bang,” or are like me and made the chop during the pandemic (once going to your hairdresser became safe again), here are four basic hairstyles I have been enjoying these past few months.

The Simple Blow Dry

I will be the first to say that blow-drying your hair (or putting any form of heat on your hair) is SUCH a chore that I often try to avoid. But I will also say that when I let my hair air dry, my bangs do weird things and my roots become really greasy. Even if no one can see this on Zoom calls, nor does anyone probably care, I feel more confident when I have at least ONE day of good hair.

So, after I wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner (I use Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo and Leave In-Conditioner), I sit down and blow dry my hair. I don’t put in any product, nor do I add hairspray afterward (unless it is a particularly humid day and I am trying to go the extra mile, which hardly ever occurs during the pandemic). I use both a round and flat brush to blow dry my hair.

Because my hair is short and straight, blow drying my hair doesn’t take too long. If you have long or curly hair, I would recommend wrapping your hair in a t-shirt to dry and just blow-drying your bangs so they are nice and voluminous.

Half-Up Half-Down for those Indecisive Days

Sometimes having my hair down can be really annoying and I just want my hair out of my face. I also hate the feeling of day-old hair being in my eyes or on my skin, so my go-to solution is taking a clip or hairband and pulling my hair in a half-up half-down situation which isn’t quite a ponytail so I get the best of both worlds. I also find that this hairstyle looks even better with bangs as somehow, bangs make the look more chic and cool? All I know is that I feel like a 25-year-old who has her whole life figured out.

Clips for Days

When I was younger, I used to rely on bobby-pins and barrettes to keep my short hair off my neck for ballet class. I haven’t touched these hair accessories until this Fall when I want to move my bands to the side and out of my face. This hair hack is particularly helpful on dirty hair days when your bangs are greasy and flat, but you don’t have time to wash your hair because it’s module two and you are STRESSED.

I still have an absurd amount of bobby-pins from my dance days, so that has been my go-to choice to pin my bangs off to the right and left side of my scalp or even on the top of my head at night when it doesn’t matter if I look like a 2000 celebrity. However, I recently caved and bought a pack of barrettes from Target.

On those Greasy Days, Manifest those Braids

For some reason, I thought that having bangs made it more difficult for me to braid my hair, but this is far from true. You can still rock French or Dutch braids, or smaller braids connecting into a ponytail or the half-up half-down style I mentioned earlier. Again, braids are a great way to make second-day hair look cool and chic (as well as hide that built-up grease), but also an easy way to curl your hair.

Honestly, getting bangs was one of the most spontaneous decisions I have ever made, but it is one that I do not regret. Who knew returning to my first-grade hairstyle would be so freeing? Have I convinced you to get bangs, too?
