Campus Celebrity: Sarah Treaster

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

Meet this week’s Campus Celebrity, Sarah Treaster! You may have watched this celeb perform on stage with Dance Club, Reflexion, and Vagina Monologues or even, if you’re lucky, at a Cro dance with her signature dance move. We talked to her about her involvement with Reflexion and Safe Futures, and how she has even been quoted in an article for the Hartford Courant!

Class Year: 2017

Hometown: Santa Fe, New Mexico

Major: I am planning on double majoring in English and Gender and Women’s Studies

Minor: Not as of yet

Extracurricular activities: VP of Reflexion, the spoken word group on campus, Dance Club, As Told By Vaginas reading committee, Safe Futures, an organization to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and watching Jimmy Fallon videos on Youtube.

How did you get involved in those activities? When I got to college, I took advantage of as many opportunities as I could and found awesome people and awesome new passions.

How did you become so involved with Reflexion? The summer before my freshmen year, I started watching slam poetry on Youtube (along with my Jimmy Fallon videos lawlz), and I got really excited about it. I started going to meetings during my first year and fell in love with performing my poems and hearing other people’s experiences through their poetry.

Favorite class/professor so far: Oh man, that’s tough. I would have to say, I really enjoy my Intro. to Gender and Women’s Studies class with Professor Rotramel and my Intro. to Sociology class with Professor Gay.

Tell us about the article that you were quoted in for the Hartford Courant: The article was about ‘Project Not Asking For It’, and I got involved because Sophie Furman put together an awareness video last semester about not asking for it (as the title implies) when it comes to sexual assault and harassment. A great article was written about the project, which actually started at Wesleyan, and I hope everyone gets a chance to read it!

What is your go-to-dance move at a Cro dance? Sprinkler, hands down — but not like actually physically with my hands down.

Do you have any nicknames? After getting here and realizing there were so many Sarahs I tried to start calling myself by my middle name, which is Camille. But it was too late at that point since too many people already knew me as Sarah. Then, my roommate started calling me “Treez” because of my last name and that kind of stuck.

Favorite Harris cuisine: I love those mini corn dogs and the sweet potato puffs. All day errday

How do you feel about being Campus Celebrity: I feel incredibly honored and surprised! I’ve always wanted to be famous. Trololol
