Campus Celebrity: Aline Feijo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

Meet this week’s Campus Celebrity, Aline Feijo!  So far during her time here at Conn, Aline has been heavily involved in various activities such as As Told By Vaginas and Safety Net. In addition, she is a floor governor. She balances her involvement while studying Art History and Architectural Studies.  If you ever spot her on campus, feel free to say hello in five different languages (she knows Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian, and French!).  Our campus celebrity this week is a beautiful person both inside and out, so read on to learn more about this inspiring camel!

Class year: 2016

Hometown: Porto Alegre, Brazil and Trento, Italy (each passport says a different thing!)

Major:  Art History & Architectural studies double major

Minor: Art

Campus Job: Floor Governor

Campus Involvements: Safety Net, Senior Week co-chair, REAL, Lyman Allyn Museum volunteer, and Art History advisory board.

Did you complete a CELS funded internship or do you plan to complete one?

I was actually invited by the Art History department to spend the summer in Italy at an art conservation institute, so I am pretty lucky that I did not have to stress about finding an internship thanks to my professors!

How many and which languages can you speak?

My mother tongue is Portuguese (because no, we don’t speak Spanish in Brazil), I also learned Italian growing up as a kid, followed by Spanish, English, and later French!

Most memorable experience so far at Conn?

My most memorable experience at Conn was being a part of the cast of the Vagina Monologues in 2014, especially because of what happened backstage before the show. It was frankly one of the most beautiful, empowering, and special moments of my college career. I cannot thank enough all of those involved in the show, because if it wasn’t for them I would not have the strength I have now!

Favorite class?

Probably Professor Gonzales Rice’s Late 20th Century Art, or Professor Baldwin’s High Renaissance Art in Italy.

Do you have a favorite place on Campus?

Either Cummings or the AC.

Best dorm?

Knowlton. Have you ever walked in there? It’s gorgeous!

Is there anything you would like to do at Conn before you graduate?

I hope to make a positive impact, leaving a powerful legacy behind.

How do you make Harris gourmet?

When I figure it out, I’ll get back to you guys!

Any ideas or plans for after graduation?

I want to get some work experience before applying to grad school. The toughest choice is picking a country to live in!

Any advice for underclassmen to make the most of their time here?

1. Get involved! Classes can only take you so far. Seriously, give a shot to anything that sounds even just slightly interesting. Join new clubs, get to know your professors, or apply for a job. It will look great in your resume, and it will also help you learn a great deal about yourself once you step out of your comfort zone.

2. Know who your true friends are, and cherish those friendships. During my past three years here I have learned how important good friends are, because those are the ones who will be there for you when it seems as if things are not quite falling into place anymore.

3. Your grades do matter. It sucks, but it’s true. Not only will it affect you when applying for jobs/grad school, but it will affect the way your professors see you as for your peers. Because unfortunately, they are not arbitrary.

4. It’s okay if you fail, just don’t quit. Be the hero you want to see!

5. Make time for yourself, and be yourself! Never forgetting that the way other people see you is their reality, and not yours.

How do you feel about being this week’s Campus Celebrity?

I am so surprised, and quite flattered!

Emily Morgan is a junior at Connecticut College.  She is studying international relations and loves to write for HerCampus.  She can be found either playing viola in the orchestra or dancing in the dance studio.
