Amnesty International Connecticut College Puts On A Cappella Concert To Bring Awareness to the World’s Refugees

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

“Songs For the Refugee” is the a cappella concert dedicated to the 10.4 million refugees around the world that are of concern to the UN refugee agency United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR.

TONIGHT, Thursday November 14, at 7:00 pm, Conn Chords, Vox Cameli, Conn Artists and Co Co Beaux will perform two songs each in Harkness Chapel with the themes of love and compassion. In between the songs Amnesty international will talk about some of the complex issues surrounding refugees, such as the portrayal of refugees in the media and LGBT refugees.

Donations will also be accepted, which will all go to the UNHCR. The money raised tonight can be used to:

$20 Provide two families with jerry cans to transport clean water

$70 Provide kitchen sets so four families can cook for themselves

$100 Provide 20 mosquito nets protecting children from the threat of malaria

$500 Provide a tent to shelter a family from the elements

Please come and support our wonderful a cappella groups and Amnesty International tonight!
