How to Stay Motivated in an Online Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Concordia CA chapter.

Online classes can be do or die for  students. They can be really difficult to manage and to keep up with and finding the motivation to work can be hard.I have done quite a few online classes for CEGEP and university. I have found that some study tricks work better than others when it comes to keeping your motivation while taking online classes. Here are my tips and tricks that I have learned that might help.

One thing that can  help is making yourself a set schedule for your online class, separate from your in-class courses. This schedule can help you visualize the lessons you have or have not done and to keep track of where you are  in your course. At times, the course outlines are difficult to follow on the class websites. Making yourself a schedule can allow you to not only keep track of what you have to do but also give yourself the number of hours or days you would have to spend on each lesson.

Another tip that can be useful is to do the schoolwork out of the house. Usually, working at home can be very distracting and you might not be as productive. I  would go to my school library to do some work for my online class. Being in a school setting forces you to work and tends to make you more productive. However, it does not have to be at school. You could go to a café, a restaurant, or any other relatively quiet, public area where you can get some work done.

One last tip that has  helped me in the past is to communicate with the educator. When it comes to online classes, you often have to teach yourself the material. However, it can be very difficult to do so at times. Communication with the educator can be extremely beneficial for you and people tend to forget that we can actually talk to the teacher behind the screen.the material and they are there to help.

In all, online classes are easy to forget about and to lose motivation. However, there are ways you can avoid procrastination. The main thing to do is find a way to for you stay on top of things and have a good mindset about the class. Then you should be good to go.
