The Best Coffee Shops on Campus to Get You Back on the School Grind

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Concordia CA chapter.

After the carefree summer nights, it can be so daunting to dive right back into school life. Whether you’re a first year or you’ve been here a while, we all experience the back to school blues at least once. This is where our trusty best friend, coffee, swoops in.

Luckily, Concordia’s Sir George William’s campus is right in the heart of a bustling city. This makes it so easy to find a good fix of coffee for a good price. I’m definitely the type of girl who will walk into Starbucks and order a salted caramel mocha with non-lactose milk (here’s to you, my fellow lactose sensitive friends), racking up a terrifyingly high price. Sometimes, it’s great to treat yourself to a well-deserved overpriced mocha. As students, though,  a good cup of cheap coffee is where it’s at, and there are many great places on campus to to treat yourself to one.

1) Hvmans Café

Hvmans is a super trendy café on the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Mackay, at 1455 Mackay Street. It’s a great quiet place to both study and people watch. A regular filtered coffee will cost you only $2.50, and they offer different types of milks, creams, sugar, sweeteners–whatever you need, they’ve got it. Follow their Instagram to find out more https://www.instagram.com/hvmanscafe/?hl=en

2) Café Myriade

Myriade is located at 1432 Mackay Street, between Sainte-Catherine and De Maisonneuve. A filtered coffee will cost you $2.39, and you can choose from an array of different coffee blends and flavours. Like Hvmans, different choices of add-ins are available. Check out their website for more information http://www.cafemyriade.com/wp/

3) Parma Café

Parma Café is an amazing gem of a coffee shop at 1202 Bishop Street between Sainte-Catherine and René-Levesque. It’s trendy, welcoming, and super cheap. While filtered coffee isn’t a specialty of theirs, a small latte is only $3.50. For those days where you are feeling extra zombie-like, an espresso is only $2.50. You can find out more on their website http://www.parmacafe.ca/en/gallery/

4) Hinnawi Bros Bagel & Café

Hinnawi Bros is right across the street from the Hall Building, at 2002 Mackay Street, on the corner of De Maisonneuve. If a regular cup of filtered coffee isn’t to your taste and you live for the finer things in life (me), this great breakfast café will offer you just that. Their lattes start at only $3.04 which is literally half of what I pay at Starbucks, so this is a major score for me. Their website and more information can be found here http://www.hinnawibrosbagelandcafe.com

With these great and cheap coffee options right at my disposal, I know I’ll be more than ready to grab a quick pick-me-up. Whether you’re cramming for five midterms or just want to enjoy a break with a piping hot caffeinated beverage, these cafes, only mere seconds away from class, are sure to bring you what you desire.
