Pomp and Circumstance…It’s Graduation Time!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Chicago chapter.

If you’ve been suffering from senioritis like me, you’ve probably gotten all this information etched in your head. But in case you don’t, here’s everything (at least I hope so) about commencement.

  1. Cap and Gown

Pick up your lovely graduation attire at Cap and Gown Distribution at The Court, 731 S. Plymouth Ct., on Tuesday, May 10th and Wednesday, May 11th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can also take pictures in your gap and gown during the same hours on the same days at the same place. But beware, I heard if you haven’t filled out your online course evaluations you won’t be able to pick up your stuff. On a brighter note, the gowns are now made with eco-friendly materials.

  1. Pre-graduation Party

Columbia’s throwing the grads a party at the Hilton on May 13. It’s free, you get two drink tickets, food, music and you can bring a guest to attend. I’ve heard mixed reactions about it, but it’s free, so why complain? Oh, and it’s located at the Hilton. Sounds like a sweet deal to me. ‎It’s A Graduation Party! Don’t forget to RSVP!

  1. Where’s graduation?

Ok, if you’re graduating, I’m sure you know where the ceremony is being held. But, just in case, it’s at the UIC Pavilion, 525 S. Racine and parking is $10. Check here to find out what day and time your class is walking across the stage.

  1. Diploma, not

Don’t be alarmed when you sit down after “graduating” to find out you only received an empty diploma jacket. You can pick up your degree from the Office of Degree Evaluation (623 S. Wabash, 3rd. floor, room 316) on or after July 11.

If you have any questions, the Columbia College Chicago Commencement 2011 Facebook page is awesome at answering your questions. (I’ve written on the wall and gotten a response.) Good luck and see you at graduation! (If it’s Sunday at 10 a.m.—why so early Columbia?
