It seems like these days fellow Campus Correspondent Shardae Smith and I are in this office more than we are at our actual homes and apartments. This is the place we like to call our second home—The Columbia Chronicle office. If we’re not in class or if Shardae isn’t being the wonderful super mom she is, we’ll most likely be here—either working on stories for an upcoming issue of the paper, copy editing stories or working on homework.

Shardae works as an assistant campus editor on the Campus desk, and I work at the Copy desk as copy chief. This is where we spend many long nights and days—especially on production days on Fridays—making edits and laying out pages to put out a fantastic issue for Columbia students! As long as the hours may be, we’ll still have tons of experience and clips to add to our resumes and tons of memories from working here at Columbia’s student-run newspaper!

Jackson is a senior magazine journalism major at Columbia College Chicago, class of 2011. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Jackson transferred to Columbia during his sophomore year and considers Chicago to be second home. In addition to being a Campus Correspondent for Her Campus Columbia, Jackson also works as the copy chief for The Columbia Chronicle, Columbia's student-run newspaper, and at Echo, Columbia's student-run magazine, as the fact checking/copy chief and online editor. Jackson especially loves writing about the LGBTQ community and hopes to make it one of his specialities sometime in the future. While being a big believer in karma, Jackson always tries to surround himself with positive energy and positive people. A few of Jackson's favorite things: RuPaul's Drag Race, Family Guy, lemon-flavored Arizona iced tea and Chipotle.
