Living on campus is a great experience when you first start out in college. However, I would be lying if I said I missed it. While I do cherish the memories I made with my roommates when I first lived in the 2 E. 8th St. Building, which is ironically no longer even owned by the college, I can say I enjoy living off campus in my own apartment building way more!

After leaving The Chronicle last Friday, I walked by the University Center, as I typically do, and noticed all the lights shining through each of the dorm rooms. How I remember the days of being a young college student! They reminded me almost of a prison cell or something out of “The Shining.” I remembered how there were strict rules enforced by RAs, having to swipe key cards instead of using actual keys, having to sign in my friends as guests and security guards checking all the residents’ bags as they entered their buildings. It’s like we were prison inmates in one big dorm room jailhouse! All of these rules, rules, rules! I couldn’t imagine living in 2 E. 8th or The Buckingham again and definitely not the U.C.! I would probably lose my mind! Oh well! I’ll still hang on to the good old memories, though!
