If you’ve been living under a rock, you may not have noticed that Ms. Ariana Grande is back with a brand new album. And let me tell you, by the end of listening to Thank u, Next you will no longer remember what was the album full of love and joy Sweetener. Ariana slayed the game with the latest album AND dropped a music video on top of that. This is her second album in the last six months and while it’s mostly upbeat, this is the heartbreak album we’ve all been expecting. You want a breakdown of the album? You got it.

  • imagine: This song is my new sexy jam. It’s got a simple beat to it that’s so smooth and sexy, you can’t help but love it. The song talks about a blissful, perfect love that’s now forever out of reach. The lyrics are so well thought out to fit with the melody and instrumental behind it, I just melt.

  • needy: The lyrics match perfectly to the title of the song. Sometimes we just want some attention – whether it be emotional or physical, etc. In today’s society, it seems to be shunned upon if you want a little attention and aren’t independent. But Ari’s not afraid to admit it. She wants emotional support and she admits it with no hesitation or faults.

  • NASA: This play on words is super cute. When you think of NASA, the first association is space – which is exactly what Ari asks for in this song. It’s not necessarily that she’s asking for a breakup in this song – there just needs to be some distance inserted between her and her lover. In the song she says, “I can’t miss you if I’m with you,” and that’s so true. It gives you something to look forward to and when you are together, it’s that much better.

  • bloodline:Ah, the “friends with benefits” situation. Many times they say women always catch feelings. Well, not for Ari. She just wants to have a good time. No catching feelings here. I want you but not enough to keep you all in my feelings. So no, it’s not just for men: it’s for women, too.

  • fake smile: When I first heard this song, I instantly fell in love. Someone FINALLY talks about not wanting to put on the happy face anymore! So many people have been in this situation before and Ari is no longer going to be added on that list. No more fake smiles right here right now. Please listen to this. You’ll be glad you did.

  • bad idea: Because who’s never had a bad idea when it comes to love and relationships. This isn’t exactly what you might think, though. Yes, Ari talks about making a lot of bad ideas and decisions while in this current relationship – and the relationship itself is one of them. She only wants him to take the pain of her exes and insecurities away – something that’s never good. Hence, the title.

  • make up: This song title takes on a bunch of different meanings in the same song and it’s great. Beauty products? Making up in a relationship? Make up sex? Yes to all of the above. Sometimes breaking up just to make up or have make up sex isn’t the BEST thing to do but in Ari’s case – it works. As the song says, “It’s a mood, it’s a vibe, it’s a look, it’s a match”.

  • ghostin: This is what I would call the ballad of the album. This is rumored to be about Mac and the downfall of Ari and Pete’s relationship. It’s up to you whether or not you believe the rumor – but the song itself is beautiful. The song talks about being in a relationship but you’re in love with someone else and that guilty feeling. So why “ghostin”? Because that’s what Ariana feels she should be doing it.

  • in my head: Have you ever fallen in love with the idea of someone and then they’re not who you think they are? Then this song is for you. This song paints perfectly the idea of that person and how that feels when you’re in the moment. Needless to say, we all know it sucks. And Ari does, too.

  • 7 rings: The song that I can play on loop for days on end. Sure, this song talks all about money – but it makes you feel like such a BOSS. Based off of Ari buying matching rings for her and her girlfriends. This song just makes you have the dance party of a lifetime with you and your girls and have a great time. So go ahead and live your best life, queen.

  • thank u, next: A new go-to karaoke song has walked in the building. The song that started the movement is an absolute must on this album. You don’t have to hate your exes and be mad, you can just say thanks for what the relationship taught you and move on. Love will find you.

  • break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored: This is probably my favorite song on the album other than “7 rings.” This song is absolutely EVERYTHING I never knew that I needed in my life. The fact that we get a music video with heartthrob Charles Melton to accompany it? GOALS. If no other song on the album, listen to this one. You won’t regret it.
