How Sarah Jessica Parker Still Channels Her Iconic Carrie Bradshaw Role

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Chicago chapter.

Although we saw the last of Carrie Bradshaw after six fabulous seasons of Sex and the City, she still lives on in the shoes (Manolo Blahnik’s, of course) of the person who knows her best, Sarah Jessica Parker.

After playing the columnist on television from 1998 to 2004, it’s no doubt the character has stuck with Parker all these years. With actress being her main profession, the 53-year-old constantly portrays the hardworking and New York City-loving fashionista that Bradshaw was. Her and her husband still call the big apple home as they live in a townhouse in the West Village. A full look at their charming place can be seen in Vogue’s “73 Questions” with Parker.

To this day, people take style inspiration from the countless looks Bradshaw rocked through the streets of New York City. A classic Bradshaw ensemble could never go unrecognized and it takes a certain amount of class to turn heads as she did. Parker still turns heads, and cameras, today with her outfits while walking down Fifth Avenue. From a silk pajama set turned holiday party attire, to long skirts paired with flowy blouses, she knows how to strut anything and everything.

There’s nothing this iconic tv character loved more than shopping for shoes, so Parker designing her own shoe line, SJP Collection, we’re sure was her way of envisioning the excitement Bradshaw got every time she picked up a new pair of pretty high heels. From pinks to blacks to silvers and blues, every heel makes a statement stronger than when Samantha Jones says she’s going to get the man she wants.

Speaking of high heels, Parker has proved that it’s the latest workout accessory. You might think shopping was Bradshaw’s main source of cardio, but the actress took it up a notch and does ab workouts while wearing her latest styles of shoes from her collection. Check out the motivating video on her Instagram page, @sarahjessicaparker.

Also seen on her Instagram are numerous posts about the latest books she’s reading. Serving as the Honorary Chair of the American Library Association’s Book Club Central, Parker gives recommendations for all types of book lovers everywhere. We all know Bradshaw made a living off of writing about sex and eventually became a published author, and we could read her steamy and gossipy stories every day. Parker continues to share this love of the written word with fans so they can find another topic to get intrigued in that they just can’t put the book down.

No matter the drama and rumors of Sex and the City 3, we can still count on Parker to channel our favorite fictional character as effortlessly and elegantly as she does now. Everyone can take away something from her life on the show whether it be relationship advice or job lessons. Now if we can just find a way to take away something from her closet…
