Lately, it seems as though a lot of people are coming out to stand against all of the injustices going on. It’s great that you see people left and right becoming aware of a certain cause, but sometimes it’s good to team up with specific organizations with focused missions so that you know your concern and work will not go in vain.

Here are a few of my favorite organizations to help you all get more involved in what you are standing up for. These are both organizations I’ve had the chance to be involved with in some way:

World Vision

World Vision serves close to 100 million people including earthquake and hurricane survivors, abandoned and exploited children, survivors of famine and civil war, refugees, and children and families in communities devastated by AIDS. I’ve had the honor of being a part of their Human Wrong Initiative in 2011 at Columbia. Working with their campaign really opened my eyes to the issue of human trafficking and child slavery, and learning about it quickly stole my heart.

Trade Justice Mission

Trade Justice Mission is a non-profit organization that provides micro financing, training, marketing and long-term development opportunities for the world’s most impoverished and marginalized. Their jewelry line, Okoa (Swahili for “restoration”) Jewelry, helps poverty-stricken women form cooperatives that create beautiful jewelry. They then market the this jewelry and return 100% of the profits to the women in the cooperatives. I’ve had the pleasure of volunteering at one of their fundraisers and it was great. The jewelry was really cute, and buying something as simple as a bracelet could help a woman have a better life. How great is that?

Those are two of my favorite causes, but there are plenty more out there. If you have a cause that you feel passionate about, you should definitely try to become involved in the best way you can to make a difference.
