5 Bags to Wear for People That Hate Carrying a Purse

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Chicago chapter.

They’re heavy, they’re uncomfortable but they can also be chic and reasonable. What are they? Purses. Women across the globe have been wearing or carrying  purses and handbags since the beginning of the 19th century. Fashion designers like Louis Vuitton and Coco Chanel made them fashionable and chic in the early 20th century.

Now,  it’s the 21st century and women and men around the world are looking for better alternative options to a purse. Here are 5 options to replace your purse.

Chest Bags

Popular within the past year, these types of bags have been popping up in the street wear community, labeling them as utility bags. Not only do they make a statement, but they they’re also very practical. You can store so many things in there, there’s no worries of someone trying to steal your bag because you’re quite literally strapped in and everything is within a comfortable reach.

Belt Bags

Also known as fanny packs, and waist bags but more fashionable. This has been a trend for the past few years and famous fashion houses, like Gucci and Louis Vuitton, have even given their rendition of it as well. They can store your essentials, and it’s perfect for a day at a music festival or an amusement park.

Cross Body Bags

These are bags that still sit on one shoulder but since the bag goes over your body the weight is distributed making it more comfortable to wear. This is seen on men mostly in the hype community. Like the chest and belt bag, there’s easy access to your things unlike the multiple steps it takes just to get one thing out of a purse.

Holsters

Seen in western movies where cowboys store their guns, now women can store their lipstick. This bag is worn like a vest and has two small bags on each side to store your items. Perfect for standing out and making a statement.

Backpacks

Not just an essential for students, but also an alternative to the purse. Out of the five options, this is the bag that can hold the most items. You can find ones made out of leather, high-end and budget, and it’s definitely an item for all ages.
