Your Best Summer Bag

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Barnard chapter.

Whether your summer plans include a tropical vacation somewhere exotic, an awesome internship in a major city, taking classes at your local university, or just hanging out with friends at home, having a cute summer carryall is an absolute necessity.

Lighten up for summer in materials such as raffia, canvas, perforated leather, patent, or just use brightly colored leather to differentiate your spring bag from your fall/winter bag. The classic Anya Hindmarch Nevis purse also comes in a color- blocked rubber for summer—perfect for toting around a beach towel, sunglasses, and magazines.

Let’s not forget that brightly colored oversized clutches went down many spring runways; from hot pink crocodile to neon vinyl, your bag should make a statement.

Embrace your preppy and nautical side with the navy and white striped J.Crew Boardwalk tote. Or splurge on the Lanvin “Happy” bag in chartreuse or yellow to perk up your summer outfit. Python and its cousin, Watersnake, are stars of this Spring’s bag brigade. Instead of traditional black and white, the snake has been dyed in every color of the rainbow. “Faux” python printed canvas bags can be found at DKNY and Stella McCartney.

So go on and “spring” for a new purse—don’t bag your summer shopping!
