Toure is a freshman at Columbia and is on the Columbia football team, and is also a rap genius!Â
As long as you give him a beat, he can freestyle rap on the spot, improving rhyme after rhyme. We interviewed him about his music, and his plans for the future…
Â
Favorite Style of Music:
The most enjoyable music for me is conscious rap; I love the importance of lyrics within music, the importance of sending a message to your audienceÂ
Â
How did you get into freestyle rapping?
My older cousins both produce and record music, one worked for Sony records for 8 years. With their influence I was always around music.
Â
Did you have to practice improving rhymes, or does it come naturally to you?
Rapping definitely is something you usually have or don’t have, but through daily practice I have been able to reach the point I’m at today.
Â
Which rappers/music artists inspire you the most?
J.Cole. After him would be the likes of Nas, Jadakiss, Biggie, and the Wu-Tang clan.
Â
Do you plan to pursue music as a career?
A big part of me would really like to pursue a serious career in music, but with playing college football and going to an Ivy-league school, it would have to be something I’d do towards the end of my college years.
