It’s an unspoken rule: You can’t be a Columbia student without seeing at least one theater show at some point—after all, the proximity of Broadway is one of the many advantages of going to college in New York City! However, after many all-nighters spent studying, running to and fro across campus, and keeping up with classes, sometimes sitting in a comfy chair in a dark theater is all it takes when your body is screaming for some rest. Before you know it, you’re waking up at the end of the show. Even during the best and most captivating Broadway shows, you may find yourself getting restless and squirming in your seat or even dozing off.

On January 13th, a new type of show is coming to the Big Apple – the Totally Tubular Time Machine at the Culture Club in Midtown West. The 80’s themed club is perfect for a somewhat-cheesy, little bit goofy, but totally fun night on the town (isn’t one of your New Year’s resolutions to drag yourself off of campus more than once a month…?), and the Totally Tubular Time Machine is a party, musical, and celebrity rumor mill all in one! A perfect way to indulge your secret pop culture obsession, the new Culture Club show makes members of the audience more than passive viewers, but also part of the show. According to the website, the Totally Tubular Time Machine is “an intergalactic pop experience.” Participants get to mingle and interact with some of the most famous pop “stars” from the past and present, from Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga to legends of the past such as Michael Jackson and Britney Spears (she counts as the past…right?).

Upon “passing through the time machine” (admit it, you totally love this), you never know what to expect. Ask any question you want to your favorite stars. Ask Katy Perry why she divorced Russell Brand, or Lady Gaga about the dress made of meat she wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. And the show doesn’t stop there: you also get to hear all your favorite songs live, from the 80s to today. Still not totally sold? As part of Her Campus Columbia’s relaunch, the Culture Club has given us vouchers that are redeemable for two FREE tickets to the show (between now and February 23rd)for members of the HC Columbia readership who are 21+ as well as a discounted price to offer those who don’t win the contest.
