This Friday, September 30th at 6:30 pm, the creators of the Netflix show Making a Murderer will speak at Miller Theatre. Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi have received critical acclaim and four Emmy awards for their series, which follows the story of a Wisconsin man, Steve Avery.

Avery was wrongly convicted for sexual assault and murder, serving 18 years in prison before being released, due to a new DNA test. Two years after his release he was convicted for another murder, and is currently petitioning to be exonerated once more.

The series has helped create a petition of over 500,000 signatures supporting Avery’s release and gained the attention of President Obama. Demos and Ricciardi filmed the series over a ten year period both in NYC and Wisconsin.

You don’t want to miss out on their stories, filmmaking and narrative tips, and possible hints on the next season of the show!
