Have you ever seen someone successfully wear two patterns at once and thought, “how do you do that?” Here, we’re providing you with some key tips on how to mix patterns without looking like you got dressed in the dark.

1. The easiest patterns to mix are polka-dots and stripes. As long as the colors or the scale of the patterns are similar, you’ll be set to go.

2. Sometimes, you can mix extremely different patterns as long as they’re in the same color family.

3. Or, pick two different patterns that only share one color.

4. Try mixing patterns of different scales. Once again, the trick here is to stay in the same color family.

5. Stripes can serve as a good neutral with almost any pattern.
