Dear Roomie,
The best — but also worst — day of my life was when I met you at an NYC meetup for incoming Barnard students. I say the best and the worst because you enhance my life in so many ways, (but let’s be honest) I would be so much more productive if we had never met.
However had I not met you, I wouldn’t be nearly as happy nor would I love going to Barnard as much.
We have shared a lot of things these past six months of rooming together: laughter, tears, a Costco cake, and a baby doll named Samson (who you need to turn away from me right now because it is making me uncomfortable). The amount of memories we have made in our small double is infinite and I don’t think there is anyone I’d rather live with.
I didn’t realize how much I would come to appreciate you before we became roommates. You’re a constant presence of empathy, positivity, and terrible TikToks. I know I probably don’t say this as much as I should, but I truly admire you for everything that you do. No one can ever be as good of a friend as you. There is no one else I want to airdrop things to at 5am; there is no better problem-solver than you.
And few people are able to make me laugh like you do. Although your humor is not the only reason that my Her Campus valentine is dedicated to you this year. There is no price large enough for your advice. You’re always there for me, and I hope I’m there for you in the same way. Galentine’s day wouldn’t be the same if you weren’t my friend.
I am still in awe of the fact that you are able to wake up in time for your 9am class with all your readings completed. But mostly, I’m impressed by your ability to laugh at videos until the crack of dawn before that 9am class
I know I am a terrible roommate. But you continue to be amazing, caring, and the only person who will tolerate me talking about the British Royal Family. I am sorry for hosting too many birthday parties and not cleaning the suite afterwards. Although this is me publishing to the world that I will not never stop making cakes for random celebrities’ birthdays and inviting all our friends over to celebrate. However, maybe I’ll start cleaning soon… just maybe.
So thank you, Maria Pondikos, Staten Island princess, for not only being the best roommate, but also the best friend I could ever ask for.
Here’s to five more semesters of hooliganry, and a lifetime of friendship.
