When students walk into the Diana, one of the first things they notice is the beautiful and welcoming Barnard Store by the entrance. As a sales associate at the store, I have the pleasure of meeting all kinds of people including faculty, prospective students, and alumnae returning for visits. When an alumna walked in today, she strolled around, looking at the variety of Barnard gear we offer. She began to share her memories of the previous building that had once existed on campus (the McIntosh), and even remembered how long ago, there was only one Barnard shirt to choose from. Only one Barnard shirt?! Thankfully, we have made progress since then–a lot, in fact. Today, we have a wide range of products available to the community. The store has everything  from Barnard Hanky Panky underwear, Barnard logo workout tops and even great school supplies. While I do love all of what we sell, below are my top 10 must-haves:

1.    Class Color Tee
Class colors are fun! They are the Barnard Store’s first and longest running piece of merchandise. All four colors are available and help show your class pride!

2.    Gate Umbrella
The Barnard gates umbrellas are beautiful! They are durable and so distinct from other, featureless, umbrellas on the streets on Morningside Heights.

3.    Baggu tote
Baggu totes are durable as well, and especially good for the environment. One Baggu holds the contents of 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags and can carry up to 25 pounds of weight. Its pattern is cut to reduce material waste and the pouch is made from scrap fabric. Also, using a Baggu eliminates the use of 300-700 plastic bags per year! Not to mention that it comes in bright colors!

4.    Portfolio
This item is an absolute must-have when it comes to interviews. It is professional, and appropriate for a work environment.

5.    Custom-made Barnard Charms
A student’s mother hand-makes the store’s beautiful silver and copper charms. The charms can be personalized with name or class year at no additional cost.

6.    Decal
Everyone’s parents want to brag about their Barnard student! With a decal, they will not need to say word, just drive on and be proud.

7.    Bear
Barnard’s beloved mascot is Millie the Bear, so why not have a small bear of your own? They make great gifts and are undoubtedly the most loveable item in the Store!

8.     Silk scarf
The silk scarf has been especially popular among alumnae. It illustrates the iconic image of Barnard’s gates in fine royal and baby blue.

9.     Postcards
The images seen on the postcards in the store are actual images used from Barnard’s archives. Send someone your love with a bit of Barnard history along too.

10.Magnet
The magnet replicates the 1-line subway sign. However, the magnet says “Barnard College” instead. This item makes a wonderful gift to showcase on a fridge!

After grabbing a cup of delicious Starbuck’s coffee at Liz’s Place and mingling with your friends in the Diana entrance, stop by the store. I know you could use a little bit more Barnard pride.
