A Letter from your Editor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Barnard chapter.

Dear Her Campus Columbia Barnard

I write to you with many conflicting emotions; it is my last year, both at Barnard and Columbia, and also as Campus Correspondent for HC CB. I’m overjoyed to see all the progress my team has made from my freshman year spring as first-year columnist, to sophomore year as social media and events editor to co-Editor-in-Chief, to winging it all on my own.

I’ve met beautiful souls through this organization and I continue to meet them at every meeting, every tabling, every event we have. I’ve met sisters from Puerto Rico, sunny friends from Florida, accomplished journalists at Refinery29, amazing marketers from Redbull and Hulu, and bonded with members at the acclaimed Instagram Story School (more complicated than it sounds, trust me).

I never thought my life would be changed when I cold-emailed the campus correspondent of Her Campus Barnard three years ago, but I have grown into a leader and a strong woman. Once you’re part of the Her Campus family, you’re welcome forever. The strong women around you, at Barnard, at Columbia, are just the beginnings of your journey through womanhood, feminism, inclusivity, freedom of speech, and personal and professional growth.

So I’ll leave you with this: show up, no matter how tired you are, communicate, especially if you’re not sure if your question is important, and create, from writing to journaling to curating your cat’s Instagram. It matters, you matter, and Her Campus will support you every step of the way.

I’m inspired by my returning executive board, who’ve grown exponentially in the last year, by my new writers and by those yet to come. While I’m fashioning my legacy, you can begin yours.

I hope to see you Wednesdays at 8:30 pm and at our fab events this semester!

HCXO,

Sydney
