As much as we all love spending our free time in Butler 209, we all have a guilty pleasure TV show that we watch instead of doing that problem set or that reading we really should do.
Well, with Jersey Shore not coming back until January 5th and the next Gossip Girl not being released until January 16th, I have been frantically searching for a new TV show to help me procrastinate my poli-sci readings. And let me tell you, I found quite the show. It combines all of my favorite things: drama, comedy, embarrassingly cheesy lines, and most importantly, Columbia University! Did I mention that this TV show was created by and for Columbia students?
I’m talking about Columbia Television’s brand-spanking new show Floorcest! Floorcest is a show created, written, directed, and produced by Barnard’s very own Eliana Levenson. Never heard of Columbia Television? Also known as CTV, it’s Columbia’s on-campus club for creating and producing TV content. CTV allows students with an interest in TV and film access to equipment, editing software, and a forum with which to air their creations. Other shows, besides Floorcest on CTV include CTV News, Social Construct (a sketch comedy show), Sofa (an entertainment news show), and Super U. Columbia University students can watch all of this incredible content on Channel 37 on any of Columbia’s TVs.
You won’t want to miss out on this gem. Make sure you watch the already released first episode (which already has over 1,000 hits), because the next episode is coming out this month! Check out Floorcest’s YouTube page, Facebook page, and Twitter account for sneak peaks, full episodes, and information about joining the team! Eliana is always looking for new stories, so if you have a funny college moment that you think should be shared, feel free to e-mail floorcest@gmail.com. Who knows? You may see it on the next episode of Floorcest!

Meet the Cast and Crew of Floorcest
Gray Henry is a Kansas native and a sophomore at Columbia College. When he isn’t singing in a sultry bass for the Columbia Clefhangers, Gray is probably making some sort of punny joke for the amusement of those around him. Gray plays the leading role of Floorcest, an awkwardly cute and misunderstood college freshman named Dixon Ellis Jr. Dixon, ready to start off fresh in college, is disappointed when he immediately falls for the girl next door—literally.
Â
Katie Sun is a Cali girl and a senior at Barnard College. A dancer extraordinaire, Katie plays the lovable and naĂŻve Marly Richards, the object of Dixon’s immediate affection.
Â
Doug Kronaizl is from the obscure state of South Dakota and is a freshman at Columbia College. Doug has already gotten recognition as one of the hottest singers of the Columbia Kingsmen. Doug plays the bad boy on the floor, Jackson Barrett, who likes his women like he likes his eggs—over easy. Jackson’s charisma make him the object of female affection on the floor, putting him at odds with the other boys, especially his roommate Little Dickie (Dixon).
Â
Jessica Perry hails from Rhode Island and is also a sophomore at Columbia College. A budding actress, Jessica plays Gwendolyn Roseburn, the fun-loving, eccentric, and boy-crazy girl on the floor. Known for her unique fashion sense and her unrelenting quest for love, Gwen seems to know what she wants and how to get it, but she may not be as put together as she appears.
Â
Mercedes Pritchett comes to us from the town of Earl Park, Indiana and is a junior at Barnard College. A striking soprano in the Clefhangers, Mercedes plays Remy Fletcher, the girl who tries her best not to care what anybody thinks. Although she can appear hard-edged at times, Remy is a little insecure, especially when it comes to letting herself fall in love.
Â
Andy Seife, a New York native and sophomore at Columbia College, plays Isaac Zimmerman, the creeper of the floor with a big heart. Sure, Isaac may be a little rusty on appropriate social behavior, but he means well. Besides, his demeanor is a bit enticing, right?
Â
Lauren Elizabeth Brown a southern belle from Georgia and a freshman in Columbia College takes on the enigmatic role of Olivia Rivera Mason, Marly’s mysterious roommate. Olivia alone seems to be absent from most floor activities and shows no interest in getting to know anyone, especially Marly, but maybe there is more going on then meets the eye.
Â
Chris Canales, hailing from Texas, is a sophomore at Columbia College who is indispensable as editor and cinematographer. He will also be taking an on-screen role in upcoming episodes, so keep an eye out for that!
