Blizzard Movies To Watch On Your Snow Day Off!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Barnard chapter.

Okay, if you take a look outside, it’s not quite the snowpocalypse we were all expecting. But, it’s a Snow Day nonetheless, which means movies, wine, sweaters, and chocolate. Seriously, don’t be that Barnard student who takes the extra time to be productive and catch up on homework—it’s only been a week. How much homework could you really have? So, if you’re looking for the best snowy-themed movies to watch today, here’s our top ten!

1. Frozen

Have you gotten through this storm without singing ‘Do you wanna build a snowman?’ Yeah, didn’t think so.

2. Two Night Stand

Okay, this movie is terrible. Yet, watching Miles Teller and Analeigh Tipton…and Kid Cudi…and Vanessa from Gossip Girl…get snowed in to their apartments with nothing to do but each other makes for a pretty entertaining snow day film.

3. Snow Day

Remember this? Before Emmanuel Chriqui was yelling at E on Entourage about something, she was starring in Snow Day along with a chubby Josh Peck!

4. The Shining

If this were a real snowpocalypse, we might get a little cabin fever a la Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Fun Fact: I thought ‘Redrum’ meant it was a ‘red room.’ Clearly I was too young to be watching The Shining at that time.

5. Juno

Had to put this on here. Not really a snowy movie, with the exception of the winter track running scene. Best part of this movie hands down is Allison Janney.

6. Harry Potter 1-8

Don’t even pretend that this hasn’t crossed your mind. Watching the entire Harry Potter franchise from start to finish is something that everyone should do at some point in their college careers. Whether it’s mononucleosis, a snowpocalypse, or a freak hurricane (Fun Fact: I watched Harry Potter 1-8 when I had mono), Harry and friends are perfect companions when you just want to lie in bed.

7. Ice Age

Okay, I’ve never seen ‘Ice Age’ but it seems theme appropriate.

8. Frozen

This is the OTHER Frozen. This one doesn’t have singing snowmen and adorable rock trolls. Instead, this one is about three idiots that get stuck on a ski lift for 3 days. Frostbite, hungry wolves, and Kevin Zegers are all you need to enjoy this frozen thriller.

9. Winter’s Bone

It’s J-Law’s big break! Even though you know Jennifer Lawrence as kick-ass Katniss and a bubbly, candid interviewee, her first oscar-nominated film shows off her acting chops. Warning: it’s mad depressing.

10. Balto

Oh My God, this movie is incredible. Full disclosure: I had a crush on Balto when I was younger. I know he’s an animated dog, but Kevin Bacon’s voice is v sexy.
