Beyond the Parka: 5 Winter Coats to Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Barnard chapter.

In case the arctic blast wasn’t enough indication, the unusually warm temperatures are gone: it’s mid-February, lest you forget. If you’re getting a little sick of your plain puffer coat (but still want to stay warm), try one of our suggestions for a more unique way to cover up.

Fur (real or faux!)

Whatever your stance on using or wearing fur, there’s no denying it’s useful in the cold winter months. If you’re opposed to the real stuff, faux can work too.

Trench

Take a page from Kate’s book and don a trench: just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you have to get swallowed up in a giant parka.

Cocoon

Go for something a little more avant-garde and off the beaten path with a cocoon coat.

Patterned

Break with the basic black and stand out from the crowd in a bold color or pattern.

Menswear-inspired

If cinching it in (see: trench coat) isn’t your thing, take a cue from the boys instead.
