Tell us about the piece you choreographed for Orchesis this year?
For my first time choreographing for Orchesis, I chose to create a piece true to who I am. I’m an emotional dancer, so I picked a song full of emotion and cast dancers whose movement could embody that emotion. The piece is about the pressures that surround us in our daily lives and the internal struggle we all go through when deciding whether or not to give in or to keep fighting.

What was it like choreographing for the first time?
Amazing. I was so lucky to have a cast of incredibly talented and capable dancers who made my job easy. I owe everything to them. It was also a blast; it’s really great to have an outlet and direction for my creativity.

Best Memory?
Seeing it all come together during the second and final Orchesis show. I was bursting with pride, and may have gotten emotional.

Worst Memory?
I don’t have any bad memories, per se, but rather stressful ones. We came back from Spring Break to an unfinished piece and two hours of rehearsal time. That was stressful.

What are your other interests outside of dance?
I’m interested in all kinds of things. I’m an avid reader. I love taking pictures (and was recently banned – temporarily – from facebook for tagging too many people in photos). I watch an embarrassing amount of television. My guilty pleasure is seeing as many cheesy rom-coms as I can, but I’m also always down to see an action film. Also, cupcakes. Yes, cupcakes are an interest of mine.

Best part of Bacchanal this year?
Watching Macklemore perform Same Love, being forced into making lots of new friends because our bodies were so smashed up against each other in front of the stage, and coughing up a lung after inhaling the smoke from Flosstradamus’ fancy smoke machine. Those were all good moments for very different reasons.
