Tackle these healthy Super Bowl treats!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colgate chapter.

It’s that time of the year again where we can munch on our favorite chips, pizza and of course WINGS, as we watch our favorite hotties score touchdowns all night long! However, whether you are hosting or attending a Superbowl party, there are many YUMMY alternatives to go along with these savory treats if you are looking for a lighter meal for the night.  Here are a few healthy options to go along with this festive night:

  • Veggies with yogurt dip or hummus: While we could spend all night nibbling on chips and 7-layer dip, a platter filled with carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and all of our favorite veggies serve as a tasty option as well. Add some Greek yogurt dip or some Sabra hummus and you’re good to go for a satisfying and delicious treat to last you the entire game.
  • Foods on sticks (shrimp skewers, chicken skewers, etc.): No need for forks and knives during the biggest football game of the year. Shrimp or chicken skewers are quick and easy-to-eat finger foods that know how to fulfill our cravings. Add some roasted vegetables if you’re looking to boost the flavor a little.
  • Homemade trail mix: Be creative and mix and match some of your favorite dried fruit, nuts and candy for both a salty and sweet snack. If you want something a little less sweet, have a cup of pistachios or peanuts to munch on throughout the night. Whether you create the combination on your own or have a pre-made mix, this healthy treat is simple and delicious.
  • Baked or grilled wings: It’s true – there really is no Super Bowl without wings. Luckily, if you’re not interested in eating deep friend or heavily sauced wings for this occasion, you can still enjoy a lighter option by eating grilled or baked wings. You won’t lose any flavor, just some calories as you munch on these tasty wings.
  • Veggie Pizza: Who doesn’t love a good slice of pizza (or two!) while watching the biggest Sunday night football game of the year! If you’re looking for a healthy alternative, but still craving a slice of pizza, try a piece of thick-crusted veggie pizza. You can still have the typical Super bowl cuisine and enjoy it your way!

  • Fruit Kebabs: There is nothing better than adding some dessert to the night. Enjoy a variety of your favorite fruits on a stick, making it easy to eat while gazing at the television screen and chatting with friends.
