Above: First-year students filing into the Chapel for convocation. The torch-lit ceremony is one that is important to Colgate. First-year students are led up the hill for convocation and seniors proceed down the hill at graduation, making a full cycle. Upon descending the hill, the seniors then throw their torches into a bonfire.
This year, however, the first-year students did not participate in this tradition due to Hurricane Irene.
