Say Goodbye to Summer Sandals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colgate chapter.

For those of us that go to school in upstate New York, the end of September signifies the beginning of cold weather. While it’s still warm enough for tees and light sweaters, it’s time to put away our sandals and bring out some fall footwear. Fortunately, there are plenty of fashionable options to choose from. Here are my favorite shoe brands for this season.

1. TOMS.  When I think of my favorite pair of casual closed toed shoes, the first thing I think of are TOMS.  They’re becoming a classic fall staple because they are made out of canvas, a lightweight material that lets your feet breathe.  TOMS are stylish and, better yet, they come in numerous different styles, colors, and materials (such as sequin, cord, and even tweed!)

2. Jeffrey Campbell.  I love Frye boots but when everyone starts wearing the same shoes (UGGs, Fryes, or Hunters at Colgate), you know it’s time to switch it up. Jeffrey Campbell boots are the next big thing this season. These boots are slouchy and comfortable, the perfect shoe for tailgates. You can easily slip them on over leggings or skinny jeans. They may be pricey, but they’re worth the splurge!

3. MinnetonkaThese boots are kind of perfect for your
native American Halloween costume but even better for
daywear. Miley pulls off the boots in LA- proof that they
are lightweight enough to wear for fall (before the snow hits!)

4. Tory Burch. While I love the classic Reva flat, the new
Kendrick Driver Flat is currently number one on my wish
list. This shoe is comfortable yet chic- perfect for class or
even a casual night out.

5. Steve Madden. Over the past year or so I’ve become very impressed by Steve Madden’s shoe collection. He has truly transformed his brand from being somewhat cheap/trashy to pretty sophisticated. Whether you get pumps for formal or a pair of dressy flats, you can’t go wrong with Steve Madden.
