So we have made it through midterms and the holiday breaks are on the horizon, so to help get in the spirit (or to help de-stress from those last-minute assignments) here is a list of 5 cozy, winter-themed, bingeable TV shows to put on your watchlist.

1. Gilmore Girls

Welcome to Stars Hollow! Home to mother/daughter duo Lorelei Gilmore and Rory Gilmore. In this timeless multigenerational drama see how these two navigate family and friendship as they deal with the everyday adventures of growing up and chasing one’s dreams in early 2000s New England.

—It is easy to follow, has multiple seasons to choose from, and practically screams fall in its cozy East Coast setting.

2. Modern Family

With a documentary style similar to ‘The Office’ (listed below) this show gives a fun and (semi) honest look into everyday family life. It follows the interwoven relationships of Phil and Claire with their three kids, along with Claire’s dad Jay, his new wife Gloria, and two sons. Additionally, there are  perspectives fromClaire’s brother and Jay’s sonMitchell,   his partner Cameron, and their adopted daughter.

— Altogether it is a light and heartwarming (and slightly cringy) take on the American family sitcom.

3. The Office

Common, we all know this one. A US take on the UK original sitcom. This documentary-style comedy shows the drama and comedy-filled lives of Dundee-Mifflin paper company staff from Scranton, PA. Led by their “reliable” manager Michael Scott, the characters go about their days and their relationships both within and outside the company but not without a healthy amount of side commentary about each other. The main characters (that we all know) are Dwight who is successful but socially inept, Jim, an everyday popular guy in love with co-worker and work rival Pam, and Ryan, who really has too many jobs in the company.

—Short episodes and easy comedy. This show is great for binge-watching or for background noise if that’s your thing.

4. Golden Girls

This might be a little out of the box (and partly in black and white) but it will make you laugh at least once. Enter lifelong friends Dorthy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia (Dorthy’s mom) and these women go through their “golden years” in 1980s Miami. Though their personalities clash, these women, having been together through thick and thin, have a humorous and everlasting friendship that will bring a smile to your face and show that friendships can last a lifetime. —This was recommended to me by a friend and though I haven’t watched many episodes I can confirm that it is a fun take on adult friendships and is an easy show to get lost in no matter the age!

5. Friends

If you’ve seen the news lately you would know that we have unfortunately lost the one and only Matthew Perry, who played the lovable and sarcastic Chandler Bing. So in his honor, I recommend this timeless classic as the concluding recommendation for this post. Told in 1990s Greenwich Village, we watch the five friends Monica, Rachel, Joey, Pheby, and Chandler go through their lives trying to navigate work, relationships, and being a young adult in 90s NYC. Episodes being short and sweet, this sitcom won’t fail to make you laugh or at least forget your problems for a while, realizing that you don’t need it all figured out yet.

—Enjoy!

And (from me) thank you for all the laughs Chandler Bing xx

I hope that these recommendations help you get into the autumn aesthetic and end up on your watchlist (or not). There are dozens of more shows out there so if these (a little cliche) choices don’t float your boat turn to what you know. Enjoy and hopefully you get time to sit and relax during this busy part of the season!
