Sometimes you just need a “me day”: A day to relax, to do something you love, to enjoy your own company, and to just spend some time with good old “me, myself, and I.” Not only is a “me day” a great way to kick back and take some time off, take a break from homework, studying, essays, and the like, it is also super easy! Here are a bunch of ideas for how to enjoy your next “me day”:

  1. Go grab a coffee and a breakfast sandwich and hang out in the park. This park can be anywhere, whether Hamilton, your hometown, or just your favorite spot to sit and admire nature. If you’re not into coffee, tea works too! Not into breakfast sandwiches? Grab a muffin! Either way, go take a break and sit among the grass and trees.

  2. Take a long walk! Same idea as the previous one, but this option also involves exercise! Not only can you get your time in nature, but you can also get your blood pumping and help clear your mind.

  3. Bake a cake. Or cookies. Or muffins, banana bread, sourdough bread, any kind of bread or baked good, really. If you are not a great baker, make some no-bake oatmeal cookies or some chocolate-covered pretzels, something that doesn’t involve turning on the oven. No matter what you make, just be sure to enjoy it after, too!

  4. Watch a movie! Rewatch Finding Nemo for the eighth time (who me? no…), or try a movie you haven’t seen. No matter what you choose, though, Pixar movies are always a great option!

  5. Take a break from your phone! Log out of your social media accounts, or delete the apps for a couple days. Even if you don’t catch yourself getting distracted by them too often, it’s always nice to not have to think about all of those notifications. It’s definitely good to keep in touch with your friends and such, but a break from social media can also be a great way to enjoy some personal time free from distractions.

Amid all of the busyness of the middle of the semester, such as midterm exams, papers, readings, homeworks, and so much more, taking a “me day” to enjoy the day and have some personal time is a great way to relax and recharge–it’s also super easy to do many of these activities! The next time you feel stressed or overwhelmed, take a personal day, or just a few hours, and do something you love.
