As we begin the spring semester with a week-long quarantine, I know I’ve already started feeling a little stir crazy. Syllabus week is lowkey during a normal semester, and it provides even more downtime when we can’t hang out with friends or go off campus. It does, however, give us the perfect excuse to do a little guilt-free binge-watching. If you’re searching for some recommendations while we quarantine for the good of the Colby community, look no further. I’ve compiled a shortlist of my favorite, most binge-able shows guaranteed to get you to Sunday.

Bridgerton

The newest pandemic-watch to have taken the country by storm, Bridegrton is an English period drama produced by Shonda Rhimes. Set in Regency-era London during the season when debutantes are presented to the court, the show follows a set of siblings as they each try to find love. The soapy, sexy drama is packaged into eight binge-able episodes, and you may find yourself watching it more than once.

Somebody Feed Phil

This was my favorite winter break show, and I watched all four seasons in about two weeks. In this delightful travel documentary, we follow Phil Rosenthal (best known as the creator and producer of Everybody Loves Raymond) as he eats his way around the world. From Bangkok to Buenos Aires to everywhere in between, Rosenthal takes us on a tour of food and travel envy. Rosenthal’s outgoing demeanor and playful interactions he has with everyone he meets is guaranteed to make you smile. Just make sure you have a snack on hand.

The Queen’s Gambit

Chess, anyone? In this 1960s period drama, an orphaned girl quickly begins to dominate the world of chess while battling her deep-seated substance abuse. The mini-series is marvelously acted and beautifully set, and it just might make you want to learn the game yourself. There’s a reason it was nominated for two Golden Globes.

Mindhunter

For any true crime fans out there, this one’s for you. This psychological thriller follows two FBI agents as they try to get inside the minds of serial killers in an attempt to understand, and consequently, stop them. The juxtaposition between the agents’ in-depth interviews with serial killers and their devolving home lives leaves you on the edge of your seat and makes you think about the true cost of hunting monsters. Based on a true story, the show depicts the birth of modern criminal profiling. Sadly and unjustly called off after two seasons, it’s one of Netflix’s crime gems, in my opinion.

If you’re looking for something new to binge in (or out!) of quarantine, any of these shows will do the trick. Happy watching!
