Welcome back Colby students! You’re all probably settled into your dorms, apartments, or houses by now and already swarmed with work. However, before you dive into your schedule of craziness take a few minutes to organize yourself. Here are eight things to do before you enter full-fledged crazy town.
- Make a New Friend. It’s never too late to expand your circle of friends so make sure to be extra chummy during these first couple of weeks. It’s always nice to have a friend away from your friends when it just get to be too much day after day. Or maybe you find yourself alone one weekend. Reach out by sitting somewhere new in the dining hall or trying a different workout class.
- Plan the Gym Into Your Schedule. Get into the groove of going to the gym every day or even just 3 times a week. If you start out strong and make it habitual, the gym will feel like less of a chore and more of a routine. But wait, don’t get into a slump at the gym, change up your workouts so the gym is fresh and new every time.
- Eat Healthy. Late nights of going out and doing work may do you in if you don’t take care of yourself. Make smart choices in the dining halls or out to dinner to keep you running at your best!
- Get Involved. Have you never been involved with campus before? Channel your inner mule and show some school pride by joining a club, starting an iPlay team, or maybe even writing for Her Campus Colby! Whatever it is, do it with pride.
- Dress Up. Hasn’t anyone told you “Dress for succes?” It’s true. You will feel ready to do your best if you’re wearing your best. Not to mention you probably want to wear all those cute “back to school” clothes before it’s too cold and your lost in a winter coat, scarf, mittens, hat, and gloves.
- Get Off Campus. It’s time to explore Waterville while the eather is still nice. Head over to Jorgenson’s for lunch, run outside with friends, or catch live music at Mainely Brews. Now, I can’t promise the music will be good, but you’ll sure have fun checking out the town when it’s still sunny and warm.
- Do Your Homework. No use getting behind in your work already because you’ll be beating yourself up during Halloween doing the reading for your midterms while everyone else is going out. Stay on top of it so you can reap the benefits later.
- Stock Up On Colby Gear. Get to the book store and grab all of the sweatpants and sweatshirts you’ll need before the cold front rolls in later this fall. You don’t want to be caught without any warm comfy clothing the first week of frost.
These things will help you ease into school after what I’m sure was a great summer! What are you going to do to be ready for the fall semester??
