Don’t let this late February snow fool you, spring is coming and it’s just around the corner. Since you may have forgotten what donned the runway in September as designers showcased their Spring 2012 collections, we wanted to spark your memory. Now that the Fall 2012 runway shows are wrapping up it’s about time that spring comes into full swing at stores and on you! Here are a few of our favorite trends for spring:
1. Yellow: Not just the color of NYC’s favorite taxi (or the backdrop to DKNY’s September fashion show) yellow has emerged as a leading color for spring. Whether it’s a loose-fitting dress, a lacquered clutch, or a sheer neon blouse, make sure to incorporate yellow into your wardrobe!
2. Floral: To know surprise floral was aplenty on spring runways. However, this year the floral came with a modern twist. Seen at Prabal Gurung on slim pants and sheer dresses and at Oscar de la Renta in rich hues on evening gowns, flowers made a bold return. Looking for something to wear on the streets? Patterned floral denim or a lacy floral bolero exudes chic-ness. (Denim – DVF loves Current/Elliot $258 @ saks)
3. Crops: Showing a little skin isn’t as promiscuous at it used to be. Belly-bearing tops are coming in t-shirt, blouse, and sweater form these days to up the ante. Spotted at Blumarine, Jason Wu, and Prada to name a few, we see abs everywhere! Looking for something simple yet sophisticated? Try a cropped sweater with a high-waisted pant; we didn’t say we saw belly buttons! (Prada Spring 2012 RTW)
4. Natural Heels: We know you can’t wait to slip your foot into an open toed wedge after months of boots, so look for something with a wooden or cork heel to keep up on trend. The natural colors will elongate your legs and keep you feeling fresh. We love this natural yet flirty wedge, especially since it has an ankle strap! (Ash wedges – Vanina $265 @ bloomingdales)
5. Long Hems: People aren’t just going to great lengths during award’s season anymore. Floor length dresses have come in full force this spring for any event large or small for any person short or tall. Michael Kors showcased many long flowing dresses for spring. Nervous about the length? Try a dress that is straight lined to keep your outfit from looking like a tent or try something short in the front and long in the back to show of your legs! (Bosworth dress $180 @ nastygal)
