Have you ever been waiting for a treadmill to free up and when it does the person fails to wipe it down? Have you ever had your elliptical swiped by someone who just walked in? Have you ever been the perpetrator of these gym no-no’s? Well then I suggest you read on.
Â
Many of us make our way down (either by car or by foot) to the gym. For some of us it is a pleasurable experience, for others it may just be a necessary evil we torture ourselves with. Either way, we want to make our time at the gym as pleasant as possible and we can all help each other out!
Â
Even if you [think] you don’t you sweat, wipe down the machine. Not only is it proper hygiene to clean up your sweat, but it also helps to prevent spreading germs that can cause different illnesses.
Â
You may think you’re being sneaky, but someone sees you. Maybe you think you can just slide past the line and hop on the elliptical with no one watching. NEWSFLASH! Even if the next person in line didn’t notice, someone else probably did and will forever pin you as the elliptical stealer.
Â
Don’t stand in front of the weights clueless. If you want to get your curl on with the dumbbells don’t be in people’s way by hovering over the weights unsure what to do. If you’re confused ask a friend, the cute gym-god, or google it! Or, take the weights and bring them somewhere with more room. (This obviously doesn’t apply to the times when there is literally no place to stand in the gym.)
Â
Put your equipment away! If you use a yoga ball (or weights, or med ball), which I highly suggest you do, then put it back in the bin when you’re done. Unfortunately, the Colby gym offers limited space so the more room we can free up the better!
Â
Take your socializing to the locker room! As mentioned above, the Colby gym is small and therefore unable to host exercisers and gossipers. If you’re not using the equipment then you’re probably just in the way. Text your friend or quickly let them know whatever it is, but save the anecdotes for dinner!
Â
We’ve all been the victims and the culprits of these offenses, but it’s time to stop. No needs to forgo your manners while you’re at the gym. Remember to be clean, efficient, and honest during your workout session; it will make for a better experience we all can enjoy! Have any pet-peeves at the gym?
