You may be asking yourself, “how will I juggle homecoming and halloween packed into one weekend this year?” Well, although this could be an extremely stressful time for you, it will also be very, very fun. Now, don’t think you’ll need to be having to pre-game your dinner with your parents Friday or Saturday night to keep up, unless you’d like to make that a family event, there will be many others in your situation and the night will hopefully be a long one. But just in case you’re still a little worried, here are a few tips to keep you on your toes and ahead of the game.
1. Invite your friends, and their families, to dinner – Have you ever been sitting at the table out to dinner with your parents texting under the table stressing over where your friends may be? Don’t let this happen to you! It is not often your parents are able to make the trek to Waterville, so make every minute with them count. I’m sure your parents are eager to meet the people you’ve been spending the majority of your time with so invite them along and make it fun!
2. Take a nap – After the football game and tailgate you may be feeling tired from the few extra beers you don’t usually consume early in the morning. Don’t let that end your night! You can be all chummy with your parents and friends in the morning and then take a quick nap that afternoon to be ready for the night’s festivities. Remember, try to limit your nap to 45 minutes! After that it could do more harm than good.
3. Prepare your costumes in advance – That doesn’t mean you should wear your Wonder Woman costume out to dinner with your mom and dad, but do have it ready to throw on when you return. Another thing you can do is put on the majority of your make-up before you go out so you only need to reapply before you go out. While you’re at it, do your hair!
4. Don’t play catch up – It may be your inclination to drink as many drinks as you can when you return to campus, DON’T! Even if your friends have been drinking before hand you don’t need to guzzle down beer and wine in order to have fun. Take it slow and elongate your night.
5. Get involved – There are so many things going on campus you can do with your friends and family. Just some of my favorites include the pumpkin carving contest and a cappella concerts Friday and the tailgate competition of spirit and food on Saturday. Check out our event section or the Colby College website for the entire list of events!
How are you going to make the most of this weekend?
