On February 29th, Colby students took part in the International Extravaganza where students from all cultural backgrounds performed a variety of songs, dances and instruments. Even though a lot of the songs were in a foreign language, I still found myself mesmerized by the lyrics.

As an avid music listener, I’m always on the lookout for my latest jam. I’m a big proponent for listening to music that extends beyond the languages I understand. A truly good song can move you with just the sounds of the lyrics. Additionally, listening to music in the language you’re currently learning can lead to an expansive vocabulary. Here’s a list of twenty international songs that you should be listening to:

Chinese

My New Swag by Vava

Flourishing Dream by Isabelle Huang

Sparrow by Li Ronghao

Jiang Nan by JJ Lin

Liang Liang by Diamond Zhang

Bubble by G.E.M

First Sight from Goodbye My Princess (Soundtrack)

Upwards towards to the moon by Sa Dingding

French

Dernière Danse by Indila

Andalouse by Kendji Girac

On Ecrit Sur Les Murs by Kids United

Djadja by Aya Nakamura

Makeba by Jain

German

Lass Sie Tanzen by Ali ft. Namika

An Wunder by Wincent Weiss

Federkleid by FAUN

Je ne parle pas Français by Namika

Korean

Rooftop by N. Flying

G.R.8.U by VIXX

Piri by Dreamcatcher

Lion by (G)I-DLE

City Lights by Yunho ft. Taeyang from NCT

I hope at least one of these songs strike a cord with you! Even if these songs don’t suit your music taste, I’m positive there’s an international song out there that does! Until then, rock on!
