Actress, singer, and performer, Olivia Rodrigo, has been a sensation to Hollywood. Winning 3 Grammys and being nominated for 7 at just the age of 19, Rodrigo has exceeded the limits and been an inspiration to many young girls. While she has been on Disney’s High School Musical series and Disney’s Bizaardvark, she didn’t really blow up until the start of 2021, and “Drivers License” helped to launch her into fame. Before the release, Rodrigo talked about the song, saying: “I remember knowing that it might be something special, if not to anyone else, just to me…I felt like that song just really captured devastation in a way that I hadn’t been able to capture before.” “Drivers License” came out in January of 2021, and debuted as No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and remained there for 8 weeks! She made her voice heard by making something special for herself and sharing that special something to the world.

While Olivia Rodrigo has a unique story of how she got the fame she deserves, it didn’t just happen overnight. In her recent documentary, “Driving Home 2 U”, Rodrigo explains her life and the lead up to her debut album, Sour. The documentary shows older videos of the singer’s younger self performing and her ‘star factor’ from the beginning. She also explains the struggles after releasing “Drivers License”. While she was thankful for the feedback from the song, she was overwhelmed by people constantly asking her “what’s next?” or “when are you releasing the next song?”. Rodrigo explained that this is what made her terrified to release her next single, “Deja Vu”, saying that she called her record company days before the release date in a panic telling them to “pull it”. Thankfully, her record team had faith in the song and in her, and “Deja Vu” came out in April of 2021. The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, and she broke the record for having her very first two singles debut in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Just like her other songs on the album, this song is so relatable to many other girls. Sometimes relationships can feel so reused and like they were done before, and Rodrigo explains that perfectly in “Deja Vu”.

So, what’s next for her? The artist is currently on a 2-leg international tour. She is going all across the country to different US cities. After the US, She will perform in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, France, Holland, Ireland, and the UK. Her opening acts include: Gracie Abrams, Holly Humberstone, and Baby Queen. Despite the craziness of ticket sales due to the small venues, I was fortunate to get 4 tickets to the Philadelphia show on May 7th! I am in for an awesome show and cannot wait to see the queen go off on stage (and to scream “Drivers License” at the top of my lungs). I also cannot wait to see where the future takes Rodrigo from here!
