Low rise jeans, boots paired with mini skirts, velour sweatsuits, and blue eyeshadow all scream 2000s. These beauty and fashion statements were the peaks of the 2000s styles.
Some of the iconic fashion staples are coming back today. Here are some Y2K looks, you may have forgotten about – or that may be burned in your mind forever.
1. Strappy Heels
If celebrities weren’t rocking some other form of trendy footwear, you likely saw them hit the red carpet in short-heeled, strappy sandals. This look was commonly paired with dresses, but some celebs mixed them with jeans!

*Bonus points for the Depop shoes because they are lime green (another 2000s trend!)*
2. Dresses or Skirts Over Jeans
This trend was not my favorite, but alas it was a serious trend for a while. If you were to buy a new sundress today, you would instantly begin looking around for matching jewelry, shoes, or accessories. Although, if you were keeping up with the popular looks in the 2000s, you may have been searching for that perfect skirt and jean combo like these celebrities.

3. Ties
I give almost all of the credit to Avril Lavigne for this trend. Women wearing ties over tank tops or t-shirts was not uncommon for an edgier look in the 2000s. Even then, some women would pair it with a blouse for a more feminine approach (I’m looking at you Serena van der Woodsen).

4. Low Rise Jeans
Low-rise jeans are actually trying to come back in the midst of the high-waisted jean era. In the 2000s, they had no competition. They were simply the go-to style paired with anything –I literally mean anything. Whether they were paired with a bikini top or t-shirt, they were still a trendy must-have. The Buzzfeed link provided shows many different styles with the low-rise jeans, along with some major anxiety about them not falling down.

5. Bedazzled Everything
2000s fashion loved anything blingy or showy. Got a plain tank top? Bedazzle. Boring belt? Bedazzle. Are those jeans just too plain for you? Bedazzle. Ok, you get the point, but in case you aren’t getting the full mental image check out these links below.

6. Thin Scarves
Many people only use scarves during the winter season, and some use them as a simple accessory to a fall outfit. However, if you were trying to be hip in the 2000s, there’s a good chance you were wearing a stringy scarf around your neck regardless of the season. Some even changed up the look and turned the neckpiece into a belt. Forget necklaces, these barely-there scarves were the go-to.

7. Velour Tracksuits
These suits were popular among all ages. If you were a mom, it was typical weekend attire. If you were a teen, you likely showed up to school in this at least once. Oh, and you were extra cool if the suit was from Juicy Couture. These have also been trying to make a comeback and I am not mad about it.

8. Vests
Vests were a huge style to add to your favorite look. They easily could have been dressed up or down, especially if you combined it with low-rise jeans or strappy heels. Some vest styles have actually remained pretty stylish since their rise to fame in the 2000s.

9. Capris
Capris were a huge 2000s look. Capri jeans took most of the attention, but I vividly remember rocking my brown Capri bell bottoms like nobody’s business. It’s fair to say Capri bell-bottoms aren’t all the rage now, but a pretty popular style in leggings, yoga pants, jeans, and more.

10. Baggy Cargo Pants or Jeans
If you were trying to channel your inner punk superstar or hip hop mastermind, you were probably trying to find the baggiest jeans available. This look was popular with both men and women, and it is unclear how everyone wasn’t walking around with jeans on their ankles.

11. Honorable Mentions
Some honorable mentions of the 2000s styles that are coming back into style include:
Crocs
These rubber-based shoes likely need no explanation or introduction, but you can check out the classic clog (or look through their website) below!

Platform Shoes
In Y2K, platforms were usually paired with a stiletto heel, but many newer styles incorporated the platform look with sandals. I’m sure you’ve seen these classic platforms all over social media.

Cardigan Sweaters
This clothing piece is so popular, Taylor Swift used it as a song title. They’re comfy and simple – quite honestly, I’m not sure why they were ever not in style!
