Fall is around the corner providing the perfect excuse to cozy up with a blanket and hot cocoa. Throw a good book in to the mix and you have the final addition to the perfect night. Whether you like virtual reality or zombies, this list of my top five science fiction novels will help you escape the dreary weather outside your window. 

     1. The Monument 14 Series by Emmy Laybourne

Students from the ages of five to eighteen are left to survive inside a supermarket by their bus driver while they wait for help. Little do they know that outside a nuclear waste plant has caused the apocalypse to arrive in their small town. Will they be able to survive the curve balls doomsday throws at them? 

     2. The Enemy Series by Charlie Higson

Hiding within the streets of London is the key to survival. A group of teenagers band together to try and avoid the monsters roaming the streets. Will they be able to survive the apocalypse controlling anyone over the age of eighteen? Or will they die trying?

In a world consumed by virtual reality, Michael and his two friends live through their avatars and run through the streets of the virtual realm. The three must play a game in order to try and stop a cyber-terrorist convincing who is convincing people to harm themselves in real life. Will they be successful; or, will they fall prey to the terrorist?

The zombie apocalypse is raging across the planet. People are doing whatever they can to survive. A member of the United Nations is tasked with traveling across the world reporting on peoples experiences and their tips on how to survive. 

     5. Nightfall by Jake Halpean and Peter Kujawinski

In a world that has been living in sunlight for fourteen years, people are surprised when night comes sooner then they realized. As the village people are leaving, two siblings and their friend get left behind, stranded in the oncoming fourteen years of night. While resources are dwindling and monsters are outside, the three of them must figure out how to get off their island.
