March 2020, a year ago, the world went on lockdown due to Covid-19 and everyone’s lives changed. Now a year later, as we try to ease ourselves back to normalcy, a dose of nostalgia could be exactly what we need to take our minds off the past year and the 2000’s can do just that. The 2000’s was an iconic decade, especially for the film industry. The diversity was steadily growing in Hollywood during this time with hundreds of strong female-leads and representation of different ethinc groups/cultures. The following are some of the best movies from the decade for your escape from reality.

Bring it On(2000):

 The first movie of the Bring It On franchise and perhaps the best.  This movie emits so much positive energy because it highlights the importance of  teamwork and friendship.This is a great girls night pick!

-Available to watch on Prime Video and Hulu.

Napoleon Dynamite(2004):

The best choice for when you’ve had a stressful week and need a good laugh. A typical comedy with a plot that requires no thinking. Just sit back and laugh out loud.

-Available to watch on Prime Video and Hulu.

She’s the Man(2006):

Young Channing Tatum. Amanda Bynes. A touch of feminism. Need I say more? Amanda Bynes was one of the movie queens of the 2000’s and she delivered an amazing performance in this film. Throwing this one in the“feel-good”pile.

-Available to watch on Prime video.

ATL(2006):

Let’s be honest, we all had a girl-crush on Lauren London back in the day. The best part about this movie is that it strays away from the typical Black neighborhood stereotype. Instead of excessive violence and drug trafficking, the plot focuses on teenagers navigating life and planning for their futures.

-Available to watch on Prime Video.

Drumline(2002):

Another film from a Black young adult’s perspective that doesn’t feed into the violent stereotype.They also give viewers a glimpse of life at an HBCU, we love to see it!

-Available to watch on Prime Video and HBO Max.

V for Vendetta(2006):

This one is for my action lovers. V for Vendetta is the epitome of a thriller and keeps you on your toes until the credits. This would make an excellent date night movie.

-Available to watch on Prime Video.

BrokeBack Mountain(2006):

Warning! Get your tissues out, you will ugly cry. An LGBT romance drama that will put you in your feelings, but it’s so eye-opening and worth the tears.

-Available to watch on Prime Video.

The Dark Knight(2008):

Two words. Heath Ledger. This is one of the best joker performances of all time, no wonder it won two academy awards.

-Available to watch on Prime Video.

The Devil Wears Prada(2006):

An inspiring film for those bad days .It has all your favorite ladies of the screen, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, so there’s nothing to dislike.

-Available to watch on Prime Video.

The Princess Diaries(2001):

 Who would I be if I didn’t include this classic on the list? Another powerful female lead.This movie is absolutely perfect and one of my all time favorites. It’s one of those you can watch a thousand times and never get tired of it.

-Available to watch on Prime Video and Disney+.
