Why I’m Perfectly Fine Being “Basic”

Nowadays everything girls do seems to be scrutinized and deemed “basic,” a term often said in a derogatory manner. But, quite honestly, I accept the title as I would any positive accolade. Here’s why:

Because coffee gets me going in the morning and I think the majority of college students can agree Starbucks hits the spot.

Watching and quoting my favorite television shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” or “Gilmore Girls” is comforting and adds flavor to life.

Selfies are an easy way to document exciting moments with friends that I’ll look back on and remember years from now.

Leggings are darn comfortable and I will wear them with pride. Plus, they look good with a multitude of shirt and boot combos. What’s not to love?

Singing Taylor Swift lyrics along with friends is endless fun: she’s catchy and relatable, and there’s a reason why she sold more albums in the past year than any other artist – her music is good!

I enjoy cracking up so hard I almost cry every time I watch “Mean Girls.” And yes, I can quote a majority of the movie from memory.

Using the word “like” in between words once in a while just means I’m thinking of how to put my thoughts into cohesive sentences for others. And, like, I don’t use it that often.

Maybe Nicholas Sparks’ movies aren’t completely realistic, but I’m always down to watch “The Notebook” or “The Last Song.” And they remind me that love is something everyone is worthy of.

I like inspirational quotes and I WILL use them as captions for photos or scrawl them on sticky notes to place inside my agenda. And why shouldn’t I? Life is hard enough as it is – we could all use a little positivity sprinkled throughout our days.

Chipotle is one of the healthier “fast food” options out there and I won’t deny myself its deliciousness. How could you not like it?

And I can still enjoy the many things in life that society has deemed “basic” while still being a strong, independent woman.
