Understanding An INFP

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CNU chapter.

What is an INFP (Introvert, INtuitive, Feeler, Perceiving)?

They’re called “The Mediators” by many due to their good natured hearts and positive spirits. They’re considered the true idealist in and out, falling into the “Diplomat” category. Here’s the breakdown of INFPs.

INFP Personality Overview:

They’re considered the quiet types, shy, very obviously introverted. However, INFPs have spirit to them that is unquenchable. When they find likeminded individuals who truly understand them, INFPs are unstoppable and a joy to be around. They’re also very good at communicating in ways that people can relate to and understand. They’re very imaginative in their vocabulary and ideas. However, when they are ostracized for their idealism or made fun of, they tend to shut down and feel inferior.

INFPs are also very open minded and hard working. They want everyone to get along, value harmony, and believe in the good in people. It is when people let the INFPs down that their core is terribly shaken. They tend to set themselves up for disappointment by placing too much trust in people, and projecting their own idealism onto the world. When the world rejects this idealism, they take it personally.

INFP Compatibility:

  • ENFJs (Extrovert, INtuitive, Feeler, Judgement) “The Protagonists”
  • ENTJs (Extrovert, INtuitive, Thinker, Judgement) “The Commander”
