It seems like everyday there is a new cool nickname for everyday makeup aesthetics. Post-sobbing face with swollen red eyes and puffy cheeks is now seen as chic “sad-girl makeup”! Technically anything can qualify for a trending makeup style and take the internet by storm, influencing beautician culture. Taking inspiration from several cultures, I have gathered the up-and-coming headliners to watch out for the Winter 2022 to 2023 Season.

Cold Girl

1. pink blush covering the tip of the nose and top of cheeks to create a rosy cold look.

2. reddish lip gloss sheen to make the lips look plump and slightly wet

3. minimal application of browns and whites for eyeshadow to illuminate the whites of your eyes

4. light layer of brown or black mascara to make eyelashes look wispy

Rockstar’s GF

1. shade a smoky black eye with hints of silver sparkle on the lid and waterlines above and below the eye

2. draw a sharp black cat eye for eyeliner to look powerful

3. heavy contour, specifically on the nose and cheekbones, for a harsher look

4. apply a bold lip color such as deep red, maroon, or black

Dark vs. Light Feminine

Dark Feminine Guide:

1. the eyeliner should be thinner on the top middle of the lid, and heavier near the two corners

2. under-eye eyeliner is a must to morph your eyes into sharper siren eyes

3. only use dark brown and earth tones for the eyeshadow, making a cut crease with a darker shade

4. contrast the lips with a lip liner (preferably darker than the actual lipstick shade), followed by a nude lip color

5. fill in the eyebrows to make their shape cleaner and darker

Light Feminine Guide:

1. pink, gold, and light browns are the best colors to utilize. glitter shadow creates a softer, dainty look

2. add spots of highlighter on the nose, cheeks, cupids bow, and tear ducts to maximize cuteness

3. brush eyebrow hairs in an upward shape to look feathery

4. spread blush sparingly over the cheeks, but go lighter on the contour for a rounder face

5. (optional) some may add faux freckles with a brown pencil eyeliner to give the effect of cute spots

Eclectic Euphoric

Based on the HBO hit show: Euphoria

1. any color of eyeshadow will work, whether it be pastel, bold, or gaudy. combine multiple for a unique effect

2. draw a bigger graphic liner design to enlarge the eyes

3. use eyelash glue to adhere rhinestones around the eyes in any pattern. the more jewels, the better

4. match the lipstick or lip tint shade to the eyeshadow color for a complimenting look

Douyin Makeup

Based on the viral trends on China’s version of the app Tiktok: Douyin

1. use a paler shade powder instead of regular liquid foundation for face coverage to appear doll-like

2. dab on the tiniest bit of pinkish glitter (with a hint of brown or nude) on the lid

3. be strategic of the placement of brown eyeliner to alter the appearance of your eyes smaller or larger

4. buy a brown pencil or matte brown eyeshadow to draw lines under the eyes to create puffy, cute eyebags

5. either mascara or false lashes (many people love the “manga style”) can be applied to lengthen the lashes

6. use a pink/cherry lip stain to blur the edges of the lips like a natural filter

Clean Girl

1. hydrate, exfoliate, and moisturize your skin to give a glossy glow

2. sunscreen is an important step in caring for your skin and having a proper makeup routine

3. use a brow gel to mold the eyebrows in a clean, fresh line

4. for a sun-kissed look, apply bronzer on the apple of the cheeks

5. curl the lashes and coat a natural, thin layer of mascara to appear makeup-less

6. clear lip gloss is the final easy step in creating this bright look
