Ten 2000’s Throwback Songs That You Probably Forgot Existed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CNU chapter.

One of my favorite ways to procrastinate is to explore the depths of Spotify. The other day as I was working on my throwbacks playlist, I rediscovered a few songs that I had totally forgotten about. But let me tell you – reminiscing while listening to these songs took me back to my childhood days. I felt like I was right back at my fourth grade activity nights, dancing on the gym floor with my friends. Anywho, here are ten throwback songs that I totally forgot about but am SO glad I remembered.

“Best Love Song” by T-Pain, Chris Brown

It took me a second to think about it, but once I had heard a little bit of this song I was immediately taken back.

“Do You Remember” by Jay Sean, Sean Paul, Lil Jon

An absolute classic. When you hear those first few notes, you just know that some serious dancing and singing is about to go down, without a doubt.

“How To Love” by Lil Wayne

This song is undoubtedly a “turn on your phone flashlight and wave it back and forth like you’re at a concert” kind of song.

“Love Me” by Justin Bieber

Wow. I mean pretty much anything by Justin Bieber is an epic throwback song. But I was recently at a lip-sync event on campus, and someone used this song. All I can say is it’s been on repeat ever since.

“Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” by T-Pain, Yung Joc

I was reminded of this song in the dining hall. I was just carrying my take-out box full of dinner, and suddenly I just felt an overwhelming urge to snap my fingers and have someone buy me a drank. The unpredictable music played in CNU’s dining halls is always sure to change my mood instantly.

“Too Little, Too Late” by JoJo

A great song for going for a drive, singing the lyrics loudly, and looking out the window dramatically as you think about someone who gave just too little too late.

“Don’t Matter” by Akon

Every time this song comes on I just want to sway my head back and forth. It’s probably not great looking, considering my lack of dance skills, but it honestly just has to happen. What a cute song.

“Dumb Love” by Sean Kingston

Sean Kingston is another king of throwback bops – I mean come on, “Fire Burning”?! A classic. However, I had forgotten about this other bop of his.

“Love You Like A Love Song” by Selena Gomez & The Scene

Another song that I just have to sing. When I hear that opening beat come in, I know that it’s time to sing about what I want you to know babyyyy.

“Jump To The Rhythm” Jordan Pruitt

Yes, this is from the Disney Channel Original Movie Jump In!  – An underrated DCOM in my opinion. Aside from reminding me of the movie, this song is just a great one. Makes me want to jump rope right now.

Next time you and your roommates are in dire need of a dance party, and you’re feeling like throwing it back to the good old days, these songs could be great to throw on for a quick dance session. Or you could get a speaker and blast throwback songs out of your window to everyone walking by to try and brighten their day. What you do with these songs is really your choice. If you need more throwback bops, here’s my playlist that has these songs and many more: https://open.spotify.com/user/omggitsmaddy/playlist/2H2QrzUE3TZSjR9BA20BMh?si=esTZtsW5ThaE6kGAGFpjzA
