Merging back into school life has been hard for me. The stress and pressure of assignments while trying to maintain time for friends and other things I enjoy is difficult. School spirit and motivation is starting to dwindle and it’s only the first week! To help out all the students who are also feeling like they’ve hit a wall already, I put together a list of movies that get me excited to go back to school!

Mean girls

How could I make a list about back to school movies and not include the most iconic school movie of all time? Mean Girls is an absolute classic. It’s the hilarious story of a homeschooled girl and her first year in public high school. As she tries to navigate the savagery of public school, she unknowingly gets adopted by the most ravenous mean girls. This comedy is Tina Fey’s masterpiece.

Bottoms

Bottoms is a movie I watched very recently and it instantly became one of my all time favs. It follows two young lesbians who attempt to get with the girls of their dreams. The only thing harder than being lesbians in high school is being lame lesbians in high school. In order to skyrocket their reputation in the halls, they create a self defense club to empower women. Secretly, it’s just so they can talk to girls. Bottoms reminds us that high school was not sunshine and rainbows, but awkward and troublesome.

perks of being a wallflower

Perks of Being a Wallflower is a true coming of age story that centers around friendship, connection, identity, trauma, and life as an experience. A young boy tries to survive his first year in high school. His goal as a freshman to “participate more” leads him on a journey of discovery and acceptance. Perks of Being a Wallflower encourages us remember why we should force ourselves out of our comfort zones. You never know what the world holds for you.

superbad

This iconic raunchy comedy tells the tale of two friends whose attempt to get alcohol for a party to empress the girls of their dreams catapult them into a night of hilarious torture. Superbad is one of the most popular and funny school movies of all time and I couldn’t not put it on the list. This silly buddy-buddy comedy will get you pumped for the semester.

school of rock

School of Rock is a heartfelt comedy about a broke musician who craves stardom. After his band dumps him, he decides to impersonate his roommate and pretend to take a substitute position at a private school. Instead of teaching math and science, he uses the unique talents of each of his students to form a new band.
