1. What made you decide to come to CNU? How did you hear about CNU? “I first heard about Christopher Newport when neighbors of mine attended the university. However, I did not consider CNU until my sophomore year of high school when I was attending the Virginia Students Council Association convention in Williamsburg where President Trible was a speaker. When I first visited Christopher Newport a few years later, I felt valued as a prospective student and I also received a strong sense of the community found here on campus. After I visited other universities, I noticed the lack of a “speaking tradition” and other friendly, hospitable things we all do everyday as Captains. This mere sense of community and respect caused me to want to be a part of this campus.”
2. What is your major/minor and/or concentrations? “I am majoring in both Political Science and American Studies with a minor in Leadership Studies.”
3. What organizations are you involved in on campus? What are your roles in the organizations?“I am the President of the Student Assembly, I am a recruiter for the President’s Leadership Program, Crew Leader for the Orientation Staff, and an intern in the Office of Alumni Relations.”
4. Who are your role models and why? “I do not have a main, single role model that I look to for guidance and answers. In lieu of that, I have a strong circle of trust with friends and colleagues in which I rely. On campus, I am supported by my work family, friends, and faculty.”
5. What made you decide to run for the position? What do you hope to achieve? “President Trible said when he left the United States Senate that ‘This world will not change by great nation states or mighty armies, but by people like you in this room that are willing to come together and show compassion, to make a difference, and to change this world one person at a time.’ Thus, I ran for President of the student body in order to make a positive difference for Captains right here on campus. This university is being shaped for the ages and to have an impact on this school that people will visit one hundred years from now is humbling.”
6. What are your plans for after college? “I plan to pursue a career in Higher Education Administration so I plan to (hopefully) go to the College of William and Mary to obtain a Masters Degree and perhaps my Doctorate and return to Christopher Newport for a career.”
7. What is one adjective that you would describe yourself as? One adjective your friends would like to describe you as? Why? “I would describe myself as dedicated. When I join something that I am passionate about, I give it 110%. My friends would describe me as old. I love music from the 1960s and before, bow ties, and over half of my Facebook friends are 40 or older.”
8. What would you like to be remembered at CNU for? “I would like to be remembered at Christopher Newport for my plethora of random CNU fun facts. Ask me for one and I am sure to surprise you!
9. What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not involved in on-campus activities? “I enjoy listening to Frank Sinatra on my vinyl record player, going to Busch Gardens with friends, eating Pelican’s SnoBalls shaved ice (Big Bang is my favorite flavor), going to the movies, and visiting Yorktown Beach.”
10. What is your favorite social media platform to use and why? “I enjoy using Twitter (@CNUKidd) the most. It helps connect me to friends near and far, allows me to blurt random thoughts about politics, food, emotions, and my favorite Netflix shows, and it is my main source for breaking news.”
11. One interesting fact about yourself? “I have met Daniel Radcliffe and have eights items (phone, Hogwarts Express sign, books, movie ticket) autographed by him. He was filming an indie film near my hometown and I was able to talk to him. Rest easy, Harry Potter fans. Daniel Radcliffe was the nicest guy. I have met other famous people, but Radcliffe was the most cordial.”
