Celebrities & CNU Greek Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CNU chapter.

At CNU, we have seven phenomenal panhellenic sororities on campus. They are: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Mu, and Zeta Tau Alpha. For someone who is not invloved in Greek Life, that’s just a bunch of mumbo jumbo. To the Greek community, it means a lot. Have you ever wondered if any celebrities have been a part of these huge national organiztions? Well, they have! If you’re curious, here’s a breakdown of some celebrities that pledged their love and loyalty to the sisterhoods we happen to offer at CNU!

Kathy Bates – Actress (known for American Horror Story) – Alpha Delta Pi

Chapter: Alpha Zeta (Southern Methodist University) – Studied Theatre

Ah, yes, the woman we all know for scaring the hell out of us on AHS is also a sister of the first sorority ever founded. After her time at SMU, she moved to NYC to pursue her acting career, and would go on to perform on Broadway.

Georgia Neese Gray – First Female United States Treasurer (Appointed by Harry Truman) – Alpha Phi

Chapter: Upsilon (Washburn University) – Studied Economics & Theatre

Talk about making history! This accomplished woman took her talents all the way to the White House back in the 1950’s. While she initially desired to pursue the arts, she later focused her talents on economics and was appointed by President Harry Truman to the position of Treasurer.

Dorcas Bates Reilly – Inventor of the “Green Bean Casserole” – Alpha Sigma Alpha

Chapter: Nu Nu (Drexel University) – Studied Home Economics

Known as the “Mother of comfort food”, this talented woman was working for the Campbells Soup Company when she accidentally stumbled across the recipe to create the now famous green bean casserole! She’s also created other various foods for the company, but most of her honors have come from her discoivery in the 1950s.

Sabrina Bryan – Actress (Known for The Cheetah Girls) – Delta Gamma

Chapter: Zeta Iota (Chapman University)

I think at this point in her life, Sabrina Bryan is tired of using the words “sistas” in any sentence. Sure enough, this Cheetah Girl that stole our hearts as a kid was also a member of Delta Gamma!

Kristen Chenoweth – Actress (Known for Glinda in Wicked: The Musical) – Gamma Phi Beta

Chapter: Beta Omicron (Oklahoma City University) – Studied Musical Theatre

If any of you have seen Wicked, you know who this is. She plays the pink-loving, good intentioned but a bit naive Glina the Good Witch on Broadway! She’s also known for her other Broadway and television roles, but her originating of this wickedly phenomenal character is her major claim to fame.

Dana Ivey – Actress – Phi Mu

Chapter: Alpha Omega (Rollins College) – Studied Theatre

You’re probably thinking to yourself, Why does she look familiar? Are you remembering her as the front desk attendant from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York? Or perhaps you remember her from The Addams Family? This woman has appeared in many places both on stage and on the screen!

Erin Andrews – Television Personality (ESPN Sportscaster) – Zeta Tau Alpha

Chapter: Gamma Iota (University of Florida) – Studied Telecommunications

It’s always very nice to see a woman in a male-dominated field. Erin Andrews had a passion for television and sports, and she used both of those to be a sportscaster on ESPN, FOX, and other various networks!

Greek women are not just women, they’re accomplished women, and these are just a few samples of women who made their sororities proud. Who knows, maybe that will be you one day?

I'm like hey, what's up, hello. I write things that either make your face look like this:    Or like this:    There is no in between.
