13 Expectations Grey’s Anatomy Fans Have For Season 13

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CNU chapter.

Fans all over the world are preparing themselves for a brand new season of the one and only GREY’S ANATOMY! I, among many, happen to be a long-time fan of the show, and would like to share what we have to look forward to, starting this Thursday! Warning: Major spoilers ahead. Let’s get started.

We expect to see…

The aftermath of Alex and DeLuca’s fight… or rather, Karev’s attack on DeLuca. If you haven’t seen the official Season 13 trailer, GO WATCH IT! In the trailer, we see a very bloody Andrew DeLuca being rushed into the ER. It doesn’t look good. Karev might be facing charges for murder… oh boy.

An explaination as to what’s up with Jo being MARRIED????!!!!! Because WHAT??? Did not see that plot twist coming.

Amelia and Owen further discussing their next big thing… having kids. We all know how long Owen has been waiting to have children of his own. Amelia seems to want kids, too, but her past experience with this particular subject might negatively impact their decision to have kids. If you watched Private Practice, or are a big fan of Amelia, you probably know about Amelia’s “Unicorn Baby”. Despite the heartbreaking death of her newborn, years ago, there’s still a pretty good chance she will be strong enough to try again. Whether or not Amelia will actually be pregnant this season, she and Owen will definitely be having some serious discussions about their hopefully soon-to-be-growing family! (Fun fact: Amelia’s actress, Caterina Scorsone, is actually pregnant IRL right now!)

Riggs and Meredith having some serious conversations about… whatever it is they’re doing right now. We’ll probably get some insight as to what each person wants from this relationship. Is it a fling? Is it more? Is this a good thing or a bad thing? How will Owen react? (Probably very badly.)

More hilarious, laugh out loud moments. Everything from Bailey’s sass, to the cute, goofy dancing that our beloved surgeons celebrate achievements with.

Life without Callie. If you’re like me – very emotionally attached to the badass known as Calliope Iphegenia “Callie” Torres, its going to be difficult to watch the show knowing that she’s not going to be on screen anymore fixing bones, doing amazing research, dropping truth bombs, cracking jokes, and saving lives. I have hopes that she will come back eventually, since she’s still alive, but it probably won’t be for a long time. In the meantime, we’ll see how Arizona handles joint custody of Sofia while Callie is all the way on the other side of the country. If you need me, I’ll be over here sadly reblogging Callie gifs on Tumblr.

The writers and casting directors continuing to bring us much-needed diversity on TV.

APRIL AND JACKSON’S NEW BABY!!! After a scary emergency C-section performed by Dr. Warren in Meredith’s home, the baby was successfully delivered and is now healthy and in the arms of her parents. We’ll see if April and Jackson reconcile and/or work out their differences. Parenthood will be an exciting and probably very stressful time for the pair. The birth of their child will most likely further complicate things for them *groans*. Honestly, I’m so ready for Japril to get back together. In the meantime, let’s just enjoy the cuteness in the gif below.

More of Meredith’s amazing monologues.

More attractive people. Let’s be real, the cast of Grey’s Anatomy has always been hella fine.

Arizona’s new love interest. Rumor has it that Dr. Robbins meets a new woman whom she takes interest in. As I’m sure many of you are, I too, am both happy and sad about this. Arizona finding new love is good for her, because she truly deserves that happiness. However, Calzona cannot be beat. What Callie and Arizona had was amazing and so, so special. BRB, still mourning the sinking of the Calzona ship.

All kinds of medical cases, including new, one-of-a-kind, intense situations. Over the years, we’ve seen plane crashes, sawed off limbs, a single metal pole going through two people, a woman with toxic blood, etc. You never know what’s going to come through the doors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

More pain and suffering. When do we ever watch a season and NOT cry at some point?

Overall, we’re gearing up for a new season full of emotional rollercoasters, plot twists, and some possible deaths… after all, this is Grey’s Anatomy – where half the people either die or leave. Soon we’ll be tweeting all our feelings (and/or screaming at our TVs) once again. Good luck, fellow fangirls. Hope this new season brings you everything you wish for.
